![]() Story / PersonalityĭARQ’s narrative is largely non-existent as far as dialogue and character are concerned but the framing device of nightmares plays an interesting role in how the gameplay is presented. The base game is fantastic, so the DLC content that is included in the Complete Edition is just a dollop of whipped cream on an already-amazing cake. The puzzles themselves are fun and intelligent: even though the core mechanics of the game are simple (you can walk up walls and use levers to rotate the level around you), the different ways in which they’re utilised makes for a game that is just as enjoyable as it is stimulating. Some passive horror games ( Outlast for example) suffer from a mechanic like this, but DARQ makes it work.Įnjoying our DARQ Complete Edition Switch Review so far? The lack of combat might be a little jarring for horror fans but in a game as methodical as this one, it just works. They don’t vary much but each interaction is tense whilst not being unfair. The enemies comprise most of the horror aspect as they are ghoulishly designed and incredibly scary. Each level has unique ways in which the world shifts around Lloyd, which makes for an incredibly stimulating time.Įnemies are scarce but your only weapon is stealth enemies are to be hidden from, not confronted. For example, there’s one level that takes place in a four way intersection with a central point that allows you to rotate the entire level 90 degrees horizontally in order to gain access to the various parts of the puzzle. Lloyd can walk up walls and each level contains a way to change your perspective in order to solve the various puzzles within. ![]() GameplayĭARQ is a horror/puzzle game in which you guide a lucid-dreaming Lloyd through mind-bending 2D “dreams”. Are you afraid of the DARQ? You’re looking at around 2-3 hours or so to complete the main campaign, with an extra couple of hours or so to complete both DLC extra levels. It’s creepy atmosphere and the game’s art style – along with the great use of black and white and how lighting is used to highlight parts of each section – will keep you going from start to finish. I enjoyed my time playing DARQ Complete Edition. Add some new gameplay mechanics, and you have a pair of fresh experiences to extend your time in the DARQ universe. Each one will feature a new set of stages for you to explore, with new mysteries, new puzzles to solve, more creepy creatures and, yes, more nightmare loops to conquer. Since, as its name suggests, this is indeed DARQ Complete Edition, that means you will not only get the original game, but also a pair of DLC available at no extra cost: The Tower and The Crypt. #Darq complete edition pro#You’ll have to sneak around while their lights are off, because if you move within their range when their light is on, they will instantly shoot you! Add the way the game makes good use of the HD Rumble of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and you have a creepy game that will make you jump every now and then. Take, for example, the disturbing creatures that have a lamp for a head. ![]() On top of the puzzles to solve, there will also be some nightmare creatures for you to avoid. While one of the gears is nearby, the others will be trickier to collect, since you’ll have to activate a handful of switches, use gravity to your advantage to complete a pair of puzzles, and then find a way back to said contraption. Once you start to walk on the walls to try and find a way out of the nightmares, you will find a contraption that will require you to collect some gears so that you can get it up and running. To give you an idea of what type of puzzles you will find, allow me to discuss a sequence early in the game. ![]()
